Why I like Decoy better than Citizen Kane
by rainbow
I was asked, "Why do you have a movie like Decoy on your fave movie list but not Citizen Kane?"
Well, this reminds me of a guy I saw ages ago. He wore a leather jacket with a patch on it which said: "30 million Elvis fans can't be wrong!"
I will for sure not say that these 30 millions guys are wrong---who am I to say that?---but I can say that I do not share their taste. Let the whole world love the music of Elvis Presley, but you will never find any of his records at my home.
Why?
Because I have my own taste. And my own taste does not have to be same as the taste of 30 million other guys ;)
It is the same with Citizen Kane. Almost the whole world seems to love and praise this film, and all I can do is to shrug and say, "I don't."
A film must have certain qualities to be on my personal fave list. First it must entertain me, which means that it should take hold of me, tie me to the seat and makes me want to keep watching it until the very last second.
Decoy does that to me, Citizen Kane does not.
Another thing is that I look also very much for the actors. I can absolutely not take overrated actors, and you will not find their movies on my list. (Of course, this is just in my personal opionion.)
Actors like Robert Patrick, Tommy Lee Jones, Jamie Lee Curtis, James Woods, Peter Weller, Halle Berry and Julian Sands are ones I really, really like. They are extemely charismatic and perform incredibly well. They are emotional and fascinate me :)
Another example is E.T. Many people say it is a fantastic movie, but to me it is very boring and I could never make it through the complete movie in one go.
A Spielberg movie I like for example is Jurassic Park---not a great story but very exciting and great actors!
That is the stuff that I need and want to watch when I come back home from long hours of work :)
So I hope this short explanation makes it clear why my fave movie list includes Decoy but not Citizen Kane ;)
But maybe the last sentence should be more something like: "Why the heck do I have to explain my taste at all?" ;)
